From Fort William to Portree, The Isle of Skye

We woke up to the most beautiful view off our balcony in Fort William this morning. When we arrived yesterday the mountains were in the clouds. We didn't even realize they were there!

After a nice Scottish breakfast at "The Tree Tops", we left for the ferry to take us to the aisle of Skye.

Between Fort William and Malaig we saw some lovely sights.

Harry Potter fans, this is one of the bridges for the "Train to Hogwarts".

I just cannot get enough of the sheep. There are more sheep in Scotland than people. I think. Well, one of my second graders told me that once during our "trip around the world", anyway!

The car ferry took us about 35 minutes from the mainland town of Malaig to Armadale, which is on Skye. This sea captain saw us out of the little harbor in Malaig.

The seas were 3-4 feet, the wind was very strong. It only cost 16 pounds for our Volvo, aka "Curb Buster", and both of us. Deal! By the way, only one curb hit today, and it was moi!

The Isle of Skye is the largest of the Inner Hebrides. It has some of Great Britain's most varied and dramatic scenery.

The ride from Armadale to Portree took a bit over an hour, only because we have a deal that we'll drive below the speed limit so I can get some feeling back in my knuckles again, plus we stop at most little pull offs for photo opportunities! The scenery was lovely, we were both shocked by the mountainous terrain here. The road typically was right along the coastline, we loved it! They say you're never more than a few miles from the coast here. Blink your eyes, the little towns were tiny in the rear view mirror!

We arrived in Portree! What an adorable little harbor town. We'll be hear for 2 nights.

This little town is very small, but from what we hear, it's the metropolis of the Isle of Skye! Portree means "port of the King",; it is named after a visit by James V in 1540.
